The Dallas Stars have found their stars that can potentially lead them to the promised land. Dallas is off to a flying start. They stand at 16-4 with 32 points. The Stars lead the league in wins and are tied with the with the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers for most points in the NHL. They are led by their league best offense, which scores 3.6 goals per game. Dallas is second in the league in power play percentage, as the unit puts a puck in the net 28% of the time. The entire Dallas offense has been special up to this point, but two players really jump out as the stars for the Stars.Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are two great players in the NHL. Both of these players are still very young. Benn is 26 and Seguin is only 23.
Benn was a fifth round pick by the Stars in 2007. He broke into the league in 2009. As a rookie, Benn scored 22 goals. His numbers have gotten better every year in Dallas and has scored 30 goals or more the last two years. His skills all cumulated last year, as he won the Art Ross Trophy, as he led the league with 87 points. However, Tyler Seguin has a had a much more tumultuous start to his career.
Seguin was a stud prospect and was selected by the Boston Bruins second overall in 2010. He seemed to be on his way to stardom with the B’s, until they shipped him out prior to the 2013 season. Since the trade, Seguin has blown up in Dallas. He’s scored 37 goals the past two seasons, and is making the trade look awful on the Bruins. Earlier this year, he scored a hat trick against his former team, in Boston. Together, he and Benn have become one of the best duos in the NHL.
Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn haven’t stopped their momentum that they had last year. Both are off to excellent starts to this season. Seguin and Benn rank second and third in the league in points, respectively, trailing Patrick Kane of the Blackhawks. Both are also in the top four in goals. Benn has 12 and Seguin has 11. Also, both of them are in the league leaders in assists. Actually, Dallas defenseman John Klingberg is the team leader in assists, but Seguin has 17 compared to Benn’s 15.
These Stars are already among the NHL’s elite. Both of these players possess great speed and hands. It’s a pleasure to watch both of them work when they’re on the ice together. These guys are absolutely gifted goal scorers and are dangerous the second they cross the blue line. With Seguin running the show from the center spot, Benn has plenty of room to work on the wings and create space for himself, Seguin and the other weapons that the Stars have. They already have the Dallas Stars at the top of the standings out West, and it sure looks they’ll keep them there as long as they keep producing.
With both players technically not already in their “prime years” the NHL really needs to watch out for this duo. Who knows, in a couple of year, they might challenge Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews as the best duo in the game of hockey, if they don’t already.
