49ers and Broncos Agree on Terms for Kaepernick Trade

As of yesterday the 49ers and the Broncos have agreed on terms for a trade that would send Colin Kaepernick to the Broncos. The trade has not been completed yet as Kaepernick needs to restructure his contract first. The reigning Super Bowl champions have lost both of their starters from last year, Peyton Manning to retirement and Brock Osweiler to the Texans, but have been in trade talks for Kap since early in the offseason. They currently have Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian on the roster so Kaepernick is the expected day 1 starter. He will be trying to recapture the glory he had early in his career with multiple playoff trips and a Super Bowl appearance. Denver however will most likely have to change their offense before team activities start so they can get the most out of Kap’s legs and keep him from having to make too many reads while dropping back. Kaepernick is interesting choice due to his regression since Jim Harbaugh left but if he looks like the player he did just a couple of years ago then Denver will have a great shot at defending their title.

If the trade becomes official the 49ers will be left with Blaine Gabbert and that will open up the door for Chip Kelly to select his own quarterback in the first round with the 7th overall pick. The choice will probably be between Carson Wentz and Jared Goff. If Wentz is still on the board Kelly might be more inclined to take him due to his rushing ability but Goff, the more pro ready player, would be a very good fit in Kelly’s offensive system. Don’t be surprised if you see the 49ers try and move up in the draft to assure they can select their next Franchise signal caller.
