3 Major Questions for Mississippi State vs. Georgia

This week’s major game in the SEC – and one of the better ones in college football – features the 17th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs visiting the number 11 team in the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs. Both teams are off to excellent 3-0 starts with marquee victories: MSU destroyed LSU last week, while Georgia went into South Bend week 2 and pulled out a close game over Notre Dame. This game could go either way; with that in mind, here are three questions that could define the outcome of this one:

Can Georgia limit the success of QB Nick Fitzgerald? Fitzgerald has really been the driving force for MSU so far in the season. Through three games, he has 543 yards to go along with 7 TDs and a 61.4 completion percentage. If he continues to have this type of aerial success, it could be a long day for Georgia.

What kind of an impact will Nick Chubb and Sony Michel have? On the opposite side, Georgia has been led by its running game with Jacob Eason inactive. Michel didn’t play last week, which led to a big day for Chubb; if the former is back this week, this two-headed monster is as close to a lock for 100 rushing yards as it will get. Regardless of the end result, expect big things from them in this matchup.

Who makes the big defensive play? Two weeks ago, Lorenzo Carter had the huge strip-sack of Brandon Wimbush to seal the victory for Georgia. Perhaps he, or one of his teammates, can force Fitzgerald to make a crucial mistake the gives their side the edge. Or maybe one of Mississippi State’s players, like senior linebacker Dezmond Harris (who has 18 total tackles and a sack on the season), makes the highlight worthy play.

No matter the outcome, this game should provide a lot of exciting plays and jaw-dropping moments. If you’ve only got time to watch one game this weekend, I highly recommend this one.
