Is Khalil Tate a One Hit Wonder? A Week 7 PAC-12 Preview

This week, all twelve PAC-12 teams are in action playing conference games. Last week’s games had some surprising outcomes; more specifically, the game between Utah and Stanford. Utah was ranked 20th heading in, but had a hard time finding the endzone. Stanford’s offense still looked horrendous outside of Bryce Love, but he can’t carry them the rest of the season. If they don’t figure out the QB situation soon Stanford might not even get a bowl bid this year.

11072015-WSU_38Washington State and Cal face off this Friday to start the Week 7 action. Washington State is currently ranked 8th in the country and is one of the two undefeated teams remaining in the PAC-12 (the other one being in-state rival, Washington). Washington State is coming off a great win against Oregon where they stopped every offensive look the Ducks gave them. Cal doesn’t have the same explosiveness in their offense like Oregon, so Washington State should win fairly easy.

Next up is Colorado vs Oregon State who are both looking for their first conference win. Colorado has lost three straight, two of which came down to the last second. Oregon State has dropped four straight, none of which have been close. The Beavers are, simply put, the worst team in the PAC-12 and Colorado should beat them for their first conference win this weekend

Next is USC vs Utah. USC easily handled Oregon State last week and should have another pretty easy week. Utah’s defense struggled to contain Bryce Love at times, despite Stanford’s lack of a passing game, so the combination of Darnold at QB and Jones II at RB might be too much for them to stop. The thing I’m really interested in seeing is if Sam Darnold can have at least one game this season where he doesn’t throw a pick. With 9 interceptions on the year already, Darnold is beginning to look less and less like a top flight prospect.

Arizona v ColoradoFollowing their bye week, UCLA will be going to Arizona to take on the Wildcats. Arizona is coming off a shootout where they narrowly beat out Colorado 45-42. Arizona’s offense is gonna have a field day against UCLA’s defense and sophomore QB Khalil Tate could have another performance like last week where rushed for 327 yards and 4 TD’s on just 14 carries. Unfortunately for Arizona, their defense is also a joke and they’re going against The Rosen One. This could be one of the highest scoring games of the year and I’m gonna pick UCLA to win it thanks to Josh Rosen’s experience and poise late in games.

The Pac-12’s top team, Washington, will take on Arizona State. Arizona State has played very well at times but can’t fix up their defense. Washington has one of the top offenses and QBs in the country. Washington will have no hard time finding the endzone on Saturday, their defense will have to stay on their toes because the Sun Devils can put up big numbers on offense. Arizona State doesn’t have a great chance at winning but they could keep it close

bryce   The last game of the week for the PAC-12 is Oregon vs Stanford. The Cardinals defense has looked good the last couple of game,s but they’ll have a hard time containing the Ducks running game. Oregon’s defense won’t have it any easier as they try to stop Bryce Love. This game is going to come down to quarterback play. Both teams have lackluster starters and don’t rely on the passing game so if either of them has a turnover it could end up deciding the game.
